New SeriousMD app brings healthcare within reach of more Filipinos
A just-launched app aims to make doctors easier to find and contact for Philippine patients
Manila, Philippines – With the launch of the SeriousMD Doctor’s app, Filipinos may soon find getting a doctor’s appointment easier than ever. The app’s simplification of the doctor-finding and appointment-making process to something done by phone could remove one of the hurdles patients here face when seeking medical attention: the inefficient hassle.
“It’s usually a huge hassle to get medical care,” SeriousMD co-founder Dennis Seymour says. “First, you have to find a doctor, and they’re not always on directories most Filipinos can easily access. Then you have to spend time negotiating with a receptionist over the phone or in the doctor’s clinic once you find one.”
Seymour does not place the blame on clinic receptionists, though: “Frankly, receptionists don’t always have time for that. They have enough on their hands greeting and escorting patients, so they can’t spend 10 minutes just listing every slot the doctor has open when someone calls for an appointment. But then patients get discouraged so they postpone or stop trying to see a doctor. It’s frustrating.”
Seymour claims that the new app can take away that frustration by showing doctors’ open schedules to patients. It cuts out the middleman and lets patients see more easily on which days and times they can schedule visits. It also lets them do the actual scheduling, all from the convenience of their smartphones.
The Doctor’s app is the version for healthcare providers. The core of the SeriousMD app will handle the whole medical practice of the doctor or dentist. As a side bonus, it lets doctors register themselves as part of the local healthcare network and accept patients’ appointments online. The version for patients is to be released soon.
